John Mcauliffe

John McAuliffe, 80, of Chazy, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT with his family by his side. He was born in Cambridge, NY, the son of Colbert and Blanche (Mulligan) McAuliffe, on March 10, 1942.

John is remembered as a strong Irishman who was never at a loss for stories and spreading his remarkable Irish wit. Following high school at St. Mary’s Academy, in Hoosick Falls, he attended Castleton State College. He later earned two master’s degrees at Plattsburgh State University. Even after obtaining his degrees, John always found fulfillment in reading and taking post-graduate courses, particularly courses in Anthropology.

Throughout his personal and professional endeavors, John developed three well established passions. He is remembered by many as a longstanding faculty member at Cumberland Head Elementary, as well as a hardworking landscaper throughout the North Country. His attention to detail never went unnoticed. Perhaps most of all, John was a man who showed endless intrigue into the subject of Irish genealogy and the familial lineage of all who he encountered and befriended over the years.

John is survived by his wife, Rae McAuliffe (Perry) and his children and grandchildren: Robert McAuliffe and wife, Kristin (Ava and Jack), Shay McAuliffe, Patrick McAuliffe (William), and Caryl Provost.

John is also survived by his three brothers, William McAuliffe (Kathleen), James McAuliffe, and Gerald McAuliffe (Marie), as well as close relatives Jane Clarke, of Hoosick Falls, Casey Walsh (Kevin), and Ronald Booth. Other surviving family members include his sisters-in-law, Karen Saroj, Wendy Jarecki, and Connie Tuning and many nieces and nephews. Lastly, John is survived by a vast number of friends who have joyfully partaken in his life and that of his family.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his cousin, Thomas Mulligan, and brothers-in- law, Satish Saroj and Randy Tuning.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 12:00pm at Sacred Heart Church, Chazy.
