John E O'Connell

John E. O'Connell, 78, of Cadyville, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at his home with his family beside him. He was born in Rome, NY on September 10, 1944, the son of Maurice and Norma (Salls) O'Connell.
John spent most of his childhood in Cadyville, NY. As a boy he enjoyed playing baseball and received the God and Country Award as a Boy Scout. John graduated from Saranac High School and later SUNY Plattsburgh where he obtained a degree in Psychology. He worked many jobs over the years including being a prison guard, Counselor at Clinton Correctional, contractor with his father, he worked in the oil fields of Texas, but most of his career was spent as a long haul truck driver. He loved reading, hunting, fishing, watching and playing golf. He adored his grand niece Catherine and grand nephews, John and Daniel who affectionately called him Uncle John.
John was predeceased by his parents and a brother Thomas O'Connell.
He is survived by his brother; Derry O'Connell, Derry’s wife Katherine of Cadyville; his sister-in-law, Carol O’Connell, his nieces; Erin O'Connell and Stacey Bousquet, his nephews Stephen O'Connell, Brian O'Connell and Eric O'Connell, and several other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Friday June 23 from 1pm-3pm at Brown Funeral Home, 3 Park Row, Cadyville, NY 12918. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
