Plattsburgh John D. Scully, 84, of Champlain Drive, Cliff Haven passed away on July 26, 2011 at his home in Plattsburgh. He was born in North Adams, MA on October 13, 1926, son of Dennis and Bernadette (Molloy) Scully. In 1928 the family moved to Greenfield, MA. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1944 and entered military service, serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Following his discharge from the army, he attended Merrimack College, graduating in 1952. He was then employed as a chemist with Winthrop Laboratories in Rensselaer N. Y. On April 16, 1955, John married Mary Bond at St. Joseph's Church in Troy, NY. In 1965, John accepted a position with Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point. He retired in 1986 as Assistant Director of Pharmaceutical Research and Development for Ayerst International. He served as Town of Plattsburgh Historian from 1988 until 1998. He was a member of St. John's Church, a Life Member Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks #621, a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 20, the North Country Tennis Association and an Emeritus member of the American Chemical Society with over 50 years as a member. He was a charter member of the Town of Plattsburgh Zoning Board of Appeals. Following a heart attack in 1977, he devoted himself completely to physical fitness and could be seen running the roads at all hours. His parents, infant son John David, a brother Bernard, and sisters Betty Graham and Frances Scott predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Bond), their children, Sheila of Thousand Oaks, CA, Patrick and his wife Kelly of San Antonio, TX and Michael of Miami, FL. He has 4 grandchildren, Conor Scully of Culver City, CA, Katie and her husband David Newman of San Antonio and Ryan and Kelsey Osborne, also of San Antonio. A sister-in-law, Margaret Scully of Hermitage, PA, a brother-in-law, Andy Scott of Greenfield, MA, several nieces and nephews and their families, also survive him. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in his memory to St. John's Church, Mission of Hope or Hospice of the North Country.
