John L Thume

Plattsburgh John L. Thume, 82, of Club Road, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Friday November 7, 2014 at CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on January 13, 1932 the son of Dr. Leo and Lillian (Sheridan) Thume. John graduated from Fort Ann High School in Fort Ann, NY. He then went on to St. Bonaventure University, graduating in 1953. John was a Detail Salesman for Wyeth in Plattsburgh. He became a Probation Officer in 1966. In the 1970's he became a New York State Parole Officer, retiring in 1990. He loved playing golf, reading and his computer. John and Sylvia were snowbirds, spending 14 years at there winter retreat in Nokomis, FL and they loved traveling to Aruba. John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a founding member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. In recent years he was a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. John was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Wadhams Hall Assembly, Council 255, Past Grand Knight and the Elks Lodge #621 in Plattsburgh. He was a charter member of the Cumberland Head Fire Dept. He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter Patti Kivett. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Syliva Thume, they were married on July 22, 1953, a daughter, MaryAnne Gaul and her husband Greg of Beloit, WI , two sons; David Thume and his wife Christine of Altona, NY, Stephen Thume and his wife Kathi of Altona, NY, a son-in-law Michael Kivett of Plattsburgh, 10 grandchildren and their spouses and companions; Nathaniel (Jennifer) Thume, Gabriel (Janna) Thume, Elijah (Brittany) Thume, Emily Gaul, Daniel Gaul, Grace Thume, William Thume, Sadie Thume, Ryan (Jordy) Kivett and Kerry (Sam) Adams, 6 great grandchildren; Chloe, Gemma, Micah, Tessa, Grant and Ben, a brother Robert Thume and his wife Elaine of Peru, NY, several nieces and nephews also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday November 11, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday November 12, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church. Entombment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery Columbarium on Thursday November 13, 2014 at 9:00 am.
