Morrisonville Mr. John C. Tyrell, Jr. 57, of Route 22B in Morrisonville, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a battle with cancer. He was born in Plattsburgh on March 6, 1954, the son of the late John C. and Helen (Macey) Tyrell, Sr. John served with the U.S. Navy for four years where he started his boxing career. After being honorably discharged, he pursued his boxing career where upon he won two Middle Weight titles and two Light Heavy Weight titles in the Vermont Golden Gloves in which he won outstanding boxer in two of the tournaments. John also won a bronze medal in the Empire State Games. Later, he had a short professional career in boxing while working as a carpenter and also as a sparring partner with ex-heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. John also was an avid sports fanatic. He is survived by a son; Tyson Tyrell of Plattsburgh, two brothers and sisters in law; Keith and Christine Tyrell of Plattsburgh and their son Colby, Scott and Nora Tyrell of Plattsburgh and their children Justin, Zachary and Cassidy, two sisters; Kim Luck of Plattsburgh and her daughters Sarah and Karamy, Linda Fontaine of Arizona and her children Brian, Patrick and Corey, and his granddaughter Eloise Rosette. John loved all of his nieces and nephews very much and they all love him. His brother Gary Tyrell passed away earlier. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Military honors will follow at 4:00pm from the Brown Funeral Home chapel. Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery at a later date.
