Plattsburgh John C. Tyrell, Sr., 73, of South Peru Street, known to many as "Zeeke" or "PaPa", joined his wife and son Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare Facility in Burlington, Vermont, surrounded by his family; son Scottie, Daughter, Kim, granddaughter, Sarah, sister-in-law Betty and niece, Karla. PaPa was born in Plattsburgh on New Years Eve, December 31, 1934, son of the late former mayor John J. Tyrell and Mildred (Howe) Tyrell. PaPa attended Mount Assumption Institute, where-after he married his wife, Helen (Macey) Tyrell. He was a retired City of Plattsburgh Fire Fighter. PaPa greatly enjoyed spending time with his many friends, partying, camping, playing cards, spending time with his cat, "Kitty Kat" and taking naps. He will always be remembered for his loyalty and honesty to his family and friends and being the world's greatest Grandpa/PaPa. John was pre-deceased by his wife, Helen in October, 1992 and his son, Gary in the summer of 1986. John is survived by five children, John Tyrell, Jr. of Peru, Keith Tyrell and his wife, Christine of Plattsburgh, Linda Fontaine of Arizona, Scott Tyrell and his wife, Nora Dickson of Plattsburgh, Kim Luck of Plattsburgh, eleven grandchildren, Sarah Luck of Plattsburgh, Karamy Luck of California, Tyson Tyrell of Plattsburgh, Colby Tyrell of Plattsburgh, Corey, Brian and Patrick Fontaine of Arizona, Justin Hicks of Keeseville, Zachary and Cassidy Tyrell of Plattsburgh and Barbara Baker of Tennessee. To honor John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Friends and family are welcome to stop by John's house on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 50 South Peru Street, Plattsburgh.
