Joseph C. “Jerry” Leonard, 85, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at UVM-CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Dannemora, NY on October 21, 1934 the son of Arthur and Mildred (Haley) Leonard.
Jerry served his country in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1962. He was a skilled carpenter and built his own home in 1965 where he was still living. In his free time, he could be found working in his garden. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and the women’s UCONN Basketball team. He was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was very proud of some of the projects he worked on over the years, such as: major construction at PSUC, UVM-CVPH and most of the Lake Placid Olympic venues.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine McCarthy Leonard his son, James Edward Leonard and his wife Rebecca Brush Leonard, his sisters Veronica Connory and Marylin Collins, his 4 grandchildren, Nicholas and Amanda Leonard, Brittany Leonard Marquis and Haley Leonard, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Ann Leonard and son, John Joseph Leonard, and his brother, John Arthur Leonard.
There will be no public calling hours. Graveside services will be private for the family at Mount Carmel Cemetery with Military Honors.
Donations in his memory may be to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehab Center in Wilmington, NY. or the VFW Post #125.
