Plattsburgh Joseph T. "Joe" Whalen, 83, of Addoms Street, Plattsburgh, New York passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011 at CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born on March 16, 1928 in Kingston, New York the son of Richard and Mary (Urell) Whalen. Joe was the President and Owner of NOR-CO Concrete in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his camp on Loon Lake. An avid outdoorsman, Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks. He was a member of Bluff Point Golf Club, The Wild Goose Club and the Teamsters Local #648. Joe was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. He was named 2003 Inspirational Honoree of the American Heart Walk held in Plattsburgh and he volunteered at CVPH Medical at the front desk for 15 years. He had been Democratic Party Chair and a Life Member of both the Knights of Columbus Council #255, where he served as Trustee and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk's Plattsburgh Lodge #621. Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen A. (Krengloskie) Whalen of Plattsburgh. They were married March 28, 1948 at St. Mary's Church in Kingston, New York. Joe leaves behind five children, a son Joseph Whalen and his wife Chris of Plattsburgh, New York, four daughters JoAnn Whalen of Loudonville, New York, Karen LaPointe and her husband Joe of Half Moon, New York, Patricia Smith and her husband Howard of Williamsville, New York, Mary Beth Weeden and her husband Robin of Plattsburgh, New York. Joe was known as Pop-Pops and Pa to ten loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters; Jane Koslowski of Kingston, New York, Marcella Nerone of Tulsa, Oklahoma, two brothers; Louis Whalen of Florida, Francis Whalen and his wife Mary Ann of Kingston, New York, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Mary Whalen and several siblings. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Plattsburgh American Heart Walk at CVPH Medical Center c/o Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York.
