Joyce M Glasgow

d. January 23, 2013

Joyce M. Glasgow lost her brave fight with cancer on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Joyce was the daughter of James and Viola Dow of Fort Covington, New York. From the young girl, with pigtails flying and coat unbuttoned, racing down the farmhouse lane just in time for the school bus, to the caring, competent and accomplished woman she became, Joyce was a daughter who made her parents proud. Family was the fabric of Joyce's life. Each life experience was so beautifully intertwined with her sense of humor, wit and inner strength. The saying "home is where the heart is" is so true of Joyce. With a sparkle in her eye and a quick smile, she made family and friends feel they were home in her presence. She is survived by her loving husband and soul mate of 40 years, Tom; son, Mark Wahl and his wife Theresa and grandson Michael and wife Amanda and grandson Dayne; son-in-law, Michael St. Louis and grandson Zachary; son, Dayne Wahl and his wife Lisa and granddaughters Katelin, Haley, and Sydney; daughter, Mary Jo Trombley and her husband Jerry and granddaughters Amanda and Samantha and her husband Erik and great-grandson Charlie; son, Thomas Glasgow and his wife Allison and grandson Thomas (L.T.). She was preceded by her daughter Julie St. Louis in April of 2002. Joyce is also survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Dow and family, her brother, Gerald Dow and his wife Claudette and family; her sisters, Rita Ghostlaw and family, Pat Brunet and family and Michelle Quenneville and her husband Yves and family. She predeceased by her parents, her brother, James Dow and brothers-in-law Bruce Ghostlaw and Rene Brunet. For thirty-two years, Joyce extended her family through her dedicated commitment to education as a classroom teacher, a reading consultant, and as the principal of the Peru Primary School. During those years, Joyce nurtured and provided unforgettable leadership. The year she retired, Joyce's school family had grown to over 70 faculty and staff and 700 children. Yet, when you walked into the building, the motto "At Peru Primary Everyone Counts" rang clear. Joyce's special touch of unflappable optimism and never-ending positive encouragement was a gift everyone received each day. Joyce reminds all that knew her that there are angels amongst us. She lived a beautiful life and when we look up in the sky, there are now two stars brightly shining to guide us with their light of love. The family would like to express their appreciation and praise to Dr. Jan Duus and the nurses and staff on R5 of CVPH. Joyce created an instant bond with each person she met and the care and compassion she received was a testimony to both the hospital and to the gracious lady Joyce was. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter's Church on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be at a later date in the family columbarium at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Julie St. Louis Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Susan Wagner, District Treasurer, Peru Central School PO Box 68 Peru New York 12972. There will be a Celebration of Joyce's Life at the American Legion Post #20 362 Quarry Rd. Plattsburgh immediately following the church services until 3:00 p.m.. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home 29 Broad Street Plattsburgh NY 12901 518-561-3980. On line condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
