Joyce D Gowett

Joyce D. Gowett, 84, of Bart Merrill Road, Cadyville, NY, passed away on Friday July 14, 2017 at her home under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 16, 1932 the daughter of Francis and Beatrice (Gorrow) Demary. Joyce grew up in Plattsburgh and graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School in 1947. After graduating she enrolled in the nursing program at Champlain Valley Hospital and married Walter Gowett at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh in 1950. Joyce worked for New York Telephone and other various places in Plattsburgh. She competed her License Practical Nurse Degree at St. Alexander's School in the early 1960's. Joyce graduated from Adirondack Community College in 1964, where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Soon after she returned to working at CVPH Medical Center where she was a Nursing Supervisor, Coordinator for kidney dialysis and lastly the Administrator of Skilled Nursing on R5 before retiring 1986. Joyce spent her winters in Florida and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, margaritas and going to the casino. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Walter in 1985 and two brothers Gerald and Frank Demary. Joyce is survived by her five children; Donna Ramsdell and her husband Robert of AZ, Steven Gowett of Cadyville, Brenda Hanafin and her husband Larry of KS, Michael Gowett and his wife Debra of MA and Tammy Ezero and her husband David of Morrisonville, six grandchildren; Kristie, Heather, Lindsey, Hollie, Amy-Lyn and Caleb, eight great grandchildren, her brother Harry Demary of SC, a sister Florence Rock of Morrisonville, several nieces and nephews also survive her. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2017 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel, burial will be in St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville.
