Karen Buzzell Frey of Mooers, N.Y., passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024 at the age of 86. She was born on March 22, 1938, to Walter and Julie (Bauer) Buzzell. Karen grew up in the Bronx and attended grade school in Canada. After graduating, she attended Pratt Institute where she earned a bachelor's in chemistry and met her future husband Walter Frey. They raised their family on Long Island. Karen later went back to school to earn a master's in divinity and became an Anglican priest. She worked as a priest in Quebec until her retirement and was happy to be back in Canada where she had so many fond memories of friends and family from her time spent there as a child. Always a quick wit and great storyteller, Karen was best known for making everyone laugh. Her sharp humor and gift for turning everyday moments into something memorable was cherished by those around her. Karen was a champion of human rights and was never afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Her parishioners appreciated her kind and caring approach to leadership, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need or offering support and advice when they needed it most. A talented writer, she began contributing to the Pratt Institute's student newspaper, The Tattler, before becoming a technical writer at GE. Her ability to make complex material readable made her a valuable asset. Later, she used this gift to write short, insightful and inspiring sermons. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she found joy in music as a talented piano player and expressed her creativity as a skilled seamstress. In her leisure time, Karen loved tackling crosswords and word puzzles, spending peaceful moments bird watching, and most importantly, creating cherished memories with her grandchildren. Her warmth, humor, and boundless love will be deeply missed. Karen is survived by her daughters, Sarah (Frey) Cunningham, Ruth Frey, and Ellen Frey-Comins, and her grandchildren, Aiden Cunningham, Katie Frey, Lauren Comins and Hailey Frey as well as Sandra Ford, a close family friend who was like a daughter. Karen was predeceased by her husband, Walter Frey and son, Walter Frey. Karen's community of loving family, friends and parishioners will remember her for her humor, warmth, and commitment to making the world a better place. Services will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Karen would have liked for us to do something good for the world or make a donation to charity
