Plattsburgh Mr. Kenneth Joe Channell, 64, of Adirondack Lane, Plattsburgh, New York passed away Monday, February 02, 2009 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on November 1, 1944 the son of Kenneth and Alva (Fisher) Channell. Joe was a graduate of Beekmantown Central School, Class of 1962 and the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical Institute Canton, New York with an Associate in Applied Science Degree. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, antiques/art collecting and sailing. Joe was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge #621 and the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh where he served on the buildings and grounds committee. He served as a member of the Board of Director of Behavioral Health Services North on the facilities task force committee and the finance committee. Joe was past Chairman/Administrator of the Ernest Turner Memorial Fund, Inc. (Special trust for the Girl Scouts of the North Country) and he designed the new lodge facility at Camp Tapawingo. He was a member of the North Country Girl Scout Council and received the THANKS BADGE AWARD, one of the highest adult volunteer awards nationally. Joe was a past member of the Booster Club of Beekmantown Central School. He was a past member of the Board of Education of Beekmantown Central School District, where he served for fifteen years on the following committees; athletic, buildings and grounds, insurance, transportation, teacher and curriculum, contract negotiations as Chief Negotiator. He coached Little League Baseball for ten years. Joe was an Eagle Scout and a member of The Order of the Arrow-Adirondack Council of Boy Scouts of America and was a scout leader. Joe was a member of the Corporate Board of Directors of the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center and was involved with fund drives for the Heart Association, CVPH Medical Center and CVPH Medical Center Auxiliary. From 1965-1967 he was employed by H. Greenburg & Son of Bennington, VT, as manager of the plumbing and heating division and move to Plattsburgh in 1967 where he was employed by Keystone-Case Supply Co. as assistant manager/outside sales until they closed in 1969. Joe then went to work for Roger P. Kennedy General Contractor in Plattsburgh for thirty years as vice president and chief estimator. He worked Burns Brothers Contractor of Syracuse as Regional Manager of the Plattsburgh Office and at the time of his death, he was a project manager for Conroy and Conroy Contractors. Joe is survived by his wife of forty two years, Joyce J. (Atwood) Channell of Plattsburgh, a daughter Kelly Channell-Citro and her husband Brian and their son Ryan of Essex Junction, VT, a son, Todd Channell, his wife Jenn, her son Ben and Todd's children; Brady, Molly, Riley and their mother Beth; all of Plattsburgh, his brothers-in-law Bob Atwood of Bennington, VT, Ivan "Bud" Atwood and his wife Kay of Torrington, CT, Bob Upright and his wife Kim of Wallingford, CT, a niece Linda Adamo and her husband Pete of Wallingford, CT, great nieces Jenn and her children of Wallingford, CT. Lizabeth Adamo of Boston, MA, great nephew Peter and his son of Henniker, NH, a nephew Rob Upright and his wife Dawn and son Nicholas of N. Grafton, MA, great niece Kristina Upright of Myrtle Beach, SC, nephew James Upright, Jr. of Coventry, CT, niece Cindy Zwart and her husband Keith and their children Stephen, David and Nathan of Elk River, MN, niece Michelle Monks and her husband Scott and their children Samantha and Thomas, niece Dawn Atwood of Frederick, MD, nephew Van, wife Angel and children Emmeryson, Asher and Ivan IV of State College, PA, sisters; Jill Dattell and her husband Carl of Manassas, VA, Margie Quattrini, her children Erin, Jeff and Tim of Tonawanda, NY, Nancy Channell, Groton of Hudson, NY, several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive him. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Alva Channell, his sister Michelle, a sister-in-law Diane Upright and a nephew James Upright, Sr. Calling hours will be Friday, February 6, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February, 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Brinkerhoff St., Plattsburgh. Entombment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery Columbarium at a later date. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to the Youth Group at the First Presbyterian Church or the Charity of one's choice.
