LaVerne E. Dutcher, 82, of Lake Shore Road, Chazy, NY passed away March 20, 2014 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY under the care of Hospice. She was born in Albany, NY, on February 14, 1932, with a huge, loving heart, the daughter of Vernon and Eleanor Anderson. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady, NY in 1950. She also attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. LaVerne was passionate about reading and especially writing, for which she had a special gift or talent. She was initially employed as a freelance writer by the Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, Mass., and subsequently by the Plattsburgh Press Republican for many years. LaVerne was a beautiful woman inside and out, always expressing her concern for others. She was an incredibly devoted and loving wife and mother of five children. She was also a fantastic cook and baker, and provided pearls of perception, insight, and wisdom that still serve her family well in life. She loved her family, her friends, and living life to its fullest. She volunteered her time and energy, and brought attention to countless people's lives, businesses, and needs through her Plattsburgh Press Republican newspaper articles for many years. She travelled extensively as the wife of Navy man, having moved 26 times in 23 years. She cherished the relationships she developed in and around the Chazy area after having settled down there on Lake Champlain for the last 37 years. She also greatly enjoyed wintering in her little slice of paradise in Destin, Florida, with her husband for the last 21 years, visiting with friends, and listening to the calming sounds of the surf while soaking up sensational sunsets. She will be greatly missed, but remembered fondly by all who were blessed to have known her and touched by her heart. LaVerne was predeceased by her parents and a son, George Dutcher. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, David Dutcher of Chazy, NY, and two daughters: Ellen Wilkie and her husband Bruce of Duanseburg, NY and Lori Dutcher and her long-time companion Louise Brown of Boston, Mass; as well as two sons: Daniel Dutcher and his wife Kathleen of Edinburg, NY, and Douglas Dutcher of Chazy, NY.
