Lawrence A. Baker, Sr. 78, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Friday December 9, 2022 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 7, 1944 the son of Dorsey and Delphine (Goodman) Baker.
Larry served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1966. After being honorably discharged he returned to Plattsburgh and began working at Harris Graphics in Champlain, where he remained until they closed in 1988. Larry then went on to work for Point Au Roche State Park and Miner Institute for a few years. He later worked for Plattsburgh Air Force Base until 1995, when they closed. Larry continued to work until retiring from Dunkin Donuts in the 2000's as a manager.
He enjoyed writing, painting, carving and spending time outdoors. Larry had a great sense of humor, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On July 27, 1974 Larry married the love of his life Carol Collins at the Wesleyan Church in West Chazy, NY. Together they built a life and raised three children on their homestead located on Miner Farm Road.
Larry was predeceased by his wife and a daughter Tonya L. Jennette.
He is survived by his children: Lawrence A. Baker, Jr. and his wife, Jessica of West Chazy, Nicole A. Lahouidak of Plattsburgh, six grandchildren: Lawrence A. Baker, III, Dylan M. Baker, Sean A. Baker, Peyton A. Shreve, Aiden T. Shreve and Razan G. Lahouidak, a brother Ronald Baker and his wife Lillian, two sisters; Joyce Hinds and Carol Bulriss and her husband Leonard, two sisters-in-law: Mary Collins and Bonnie Tomkiewicz and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday December 15, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday December 16, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year at St. Louis of France Cemetery in Sciota, NY.
Larry's family wishes to thank his niece Tammy Miller and friend Jean Choe for the love and care they provided Larry. As well as the staff of Skilled Nursing at CVPH for the 15 years of care they provided especially Amanda Seymour.
