Lawrence W. “Larry” Carpenter, 87, of Plattsburgh, passed away May 10, 2021 at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on, June 9, 1933, the son of Michael and Mina (LaMountain) Carpenter.
Larry married his high school sweetheart Marjorie Carpenter on August 17, 1953, at St. Johns Church in Plattsburgh. He was a successful businessman for over 50 years while raising a family. He and Marge worked together owning and operating the L & M Motel and Restaurant as well as the L &M Discount Liquor Store, Super 8 Hotel, 4 Seasons Plaza and the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites in Plattsburgh as well as in Florida, Albany, and Watertown. Larry was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Plattsburgh and Member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge. Larry loved his politics and was Plattsburgh Republican Party Chairman for many years. Larry loved golfing here as well as Naples, Florida. He enjoyed boating, skiing, hunting, and fishing but love being a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Steven and wife Carol of Plattsburgh, Lawrence J. and his wife Lori of Schenectady, Tammy Duquette of Plattsburgh, Scott, and his wife Jody of Morrisonville; his grandchildren, Amanda and husband David, Megan and husband Jonathon, Kelsey and her fiance Marcus Resciniti, Katelyn, David, Cory, Sarah, Ashley, and Mackenzie; his great-grandchildren, Gianna, Evangeline, Theo, Chase, Zaiden, JP, and Vivienne; his sisters Irene Fortin and Connie Ero of Plattsburgh; brother-in law Phil and wife Edey Provost of Las Vegas, Tom Provost of Plattsburgh.
He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Mina Carpenter, his wife Marjorie M. "Marge" Carpenter in 2017, his brothers Clarence and Dorothy Carpenter, George and Liz Carpenter, John and Rita Carpenter, Emery and Elizabeth Carpenter; his in-laws Albert and Genevieve Provost; step father-in-law Cecil (Vern) Gibbs, Albert (Sonny) Provost of Las Vegas, Roger and Deanna O’Connell of Cadyville, Henry Fortin, Paul Ero of Ellenburg; and son-in-law Daniel Duquette.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 1:30pm at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. A private graveside service will be Friday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00pm.
