Leo Giroux

Plattsburgh Leo Giroux, 92, of Plattsburgh, passed away, Friday, August 19, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York on April 23, 1924, the son of Wilfred and Corine (Guay) Giroux. Leo married Theresa Bedard June 8, 1946 in St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy, NY. Leo was a dairy and poultry farmer. He was a Justice of the Peace, Plattsburgh Town Councilman and a founding member of District 3 Fire Department. Leo was a devout Roman Catholic; he was an active member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. In 2013, Leo was honored by Pope Francis with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross for distinguished service to the Church. Leo was predeceased by a daughter Monica Giroux, a son Lawrence Giroux, his siblings; Sarto Giroux, Paula Giroux, Royal Giroux, and Marie Labine. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Theresa Giroux of Plattsburgh, their children; Joseph (Carolyn) Giroux, John (Rosemary) Giroux, Marcel (Gail) Giroux, George (Debra) Giroux, Lucy Giroux and Patty Gallagher, all of Plattsburgh, Kathryn Giroux of Essex Junction, VT, Philip (Pam) Bronder-Giroux of Malden, MA, and Marian (Ken) Knox of Amherst, NY, his siblings; Pauline Fisher, Marguerite (Rodney) Collins, and Roger Giroux, his sister in-law Anita Giroux, all of Chazy, NY, his 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August, 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church with his grandson, Fr. Joseph Giroux presiding. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery. The family would like to thank Hospice of the North Country for the support they provided.
