Plattsburgh Mr. Lewis W. Owens, 89, formerly of Lake Forest Senior Living in Plattsburgh, New York and Mineola, New York passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with family by his side. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 30, 1923, the son of the late William and Jessie (Rough) Owens. Lewis had made his home in Mineola for many years prior to moving to Plattsburgh in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and flew 24 missions over Germany with the 788th Bomb Squadron and later was a Civil Engineer with a number of engineering firms on Long Island and finished his career with N.Y. Telephone Co. (now Verizon). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening and golfing. He is survived by a son; Congressman Bill Owens and his wife Jane of Plattsburgh, three grandchildren; Tara Antonipillai and Justin of Arlington, Virginia, Jenna Owens and her husband Warren Jackson of Mountain View, Ca., Brendan Owens and his wife Emily of Plattsburgh, four great grandchildren Caroline, Thomas , Tessa, and Andrew Antonipillai. His wife of 61 years, Alice S. Owens, passed away in 2009. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. John's Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be offered to Manhattan College or a veterans organization of one's choice.
