Plattsburgh Mr. Louis E. "Louie" LaVarnway, 89, of the Tom Miller Road passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the UVMNH-CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 8, 1925 the son of Louis S. and Anita M. (Bernard) LaVarnway. Louie was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Army Infantry. He retired from Imperial Paper Mill on August 1, 1989 after 37 years of service. Louie was a member of the American Legion Post #20, the NRA, the Knights of Columbus Council #6067, a 4th degree member of Bishop Wadhams Assembly # 706 and St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and especially Pinochle. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Helen (Ryan) LaVarnway, his daughter Mary Guay. Louie is survived by two sons; Steven Peter LaVarnway and his wife Katherine of West Chazy, Professor Gerard T. LaVarnway and his wife Nancy of Northfield, Vermont, two daughters; Clara E. LaVarnway of Plattsburgh, Lois Forgette and her husband Steven of Plattsburgh, a sister Clara Trombley of Plattsburgh, 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 4, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. Entombment with military honors will follow at Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. Members of the Knights of Columbus Council #6067 are asked to meet Sunday at 3:30 pm for services. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
