Edwin P. Goodrich, Lt. Col. USAF, Ret., 72, of Route 9, Plattsburgh, NY passed away on Saturday September 1, 2012 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Rochester, NY on December 5, 1939 the son of Edwin and Helen (Parsons) Goodrich. Edwin graduated from Charlotte High School in Rochester, NY, soon after he attended Alfred University for Ceramic Engineering before joining the United States Air Force in June of 1960. Ed was an A-26 Navigator in Vietnam where he served three tours as a tactical forward air control and strategic combat controller. As well as a Candle Stick forward air controller at night, directing strikes against the enemy. While in the Air Force he was stationed through out the world and the United States. Ed attended The Ohio State University, Florida State University and later Plattsburgh State where he received a degree in Education with five minors; Mathematics, Computer Science, Art, Communications and Photography. While stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base Ed was the Chief FB 111 Navigator in standardization and B-52 Bomber, retiring in 1982. Ed was an all American Small business proprietor in computer programming where he got the nickname "Captain Megabyte." He represented what American was founded upon, working hard, paying taxes and providing a needed an appreciated product. Ed enjoyed the Adirondacks, his jeep, raising Huskies, sailing on Lake Champlain and was one of the original Executive Directors of the Mayor's Cup Committee. He designed and built his own Geodesic Dome Home just south of Plattsburgh, something he was very proud of. He will forever be known for his generosity, his contagious laugh and for being "mean and ugly." Ed was predeceased by his parents and his sister Nancy Lee Broaderson. He is survived by his two daughters; Tamara Goodrich and Shannon Goodrich and a granddaughter Jordan Paul, all of Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations in Ed's memory may be made to the North Country Cancer Fund.
