Plattsburgh Lyman David "Dave" Broughton III, 73, of Plattsburgh, died peacefully on February 28, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Newington, Connecticut, February 2, 1944, the son of the late Lyman D. and Helen (Root) Broughton, Jr. Dave graduated from Newington High School in 1962, and from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, in 1967 with a Bachelor's degree in Government and Politics. He later attended Merrimack College, attaining a degree in Accounting. Shortly after his graduation from Norwich, Dave entered the U.S. Army as a 1st. Lieutenant in the 6th Armored Cavalry Unit. In May 1969 he was sent to serve in Vietnam, where he was honored with a Bronze Star Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Galantry. His family was blessed with his safe return home in May of 1970. After returning to civilian life, he was a manager for Firestone Tire and Rubber in Danvers, Massachusetts and later a Manager for Kmart, transferring from Massachusetts to Plattsburgh in 1975. Dave is fondly remembered by many for his gentle disposition and his creative and artistic projects. When not busy working, he was actively creating as a woodcarver. Many of his fine woodworking crafts were inspired by the Adirondacks and shared at juried craft shows. For the last several years he has been a resident at the Clinton County Nursing Home, having been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's many years ago. Left to cherish his memory are: the love of his life, Paula M. (Nash) Broughton, to whom he was married for nearly 50 years. Three children: Kristen Broughton, Michael Broughton, and Kara Manning and her husband, Dustin. As well as his grandchildren: Caleb, Ethan, and Sarah Feazelle. The family will be honoring Dave's life privately. Donations in his memory may be made to the Clinton County Nursing Home Activities Fund.
