M. Betty Carter, of Pine Harbour, 91 years young, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2017 at CVPH Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 22, 1926 the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Bridget Tobin. Betty graduated from St. John's Academy in 1944 and Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany, NY in 1946. At the time of her marriage she was employed as a secretary by Clinton County Welfare Services. Betty married Raymond H. Carter on September 27, 1947 and together they enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Raymond predeceased her on November 19, 2005. Betty was also predeceased by her parents, infant children Kevin and Cathy Carter, daughter-in-law Janis Carter, son-in-law Arthur LaMarche, grandson Geoffrey Carter and her brothers Thomas, Frank, Conway, Joseph, Harold and Patrick Tobin, sisters, Leona Hazen, Helen DeJaager, Kathryn Simpson, Claudine Simonetta and their spouses. Betty grew up in a large, hard-working and fun-loving Irish family on Hardscrabble Road in Cadyville. In turn, she and Ray raised six children. Betty was a devoted and loving mother. She was unfailingly kind, saw the positive side in everything, had great patience and always put others first. Once "the kids" were grown Betty volunteered at Birthright for over twenty-five years and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and Eucharistic Ministry for homebound at St. James Church in Cadyville. She was also a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Betty is survived by her sons, Reginald Carter and his wife Susan, Randy Carter and John Carter of Plattsburgh, David Carter and his wife Sharron of Warwick, NY and Mark Carter of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, her daughter Rosemary LaMarche of Plattsburgh and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom cherished and admired Betty for her wisdom, positive spirit, sense of humor and devotion to family. Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 12, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday October 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Cadyville.
