Mr. Marcel J. LaRocque, 91, formerly of Lake Shore Drive, Plattsburgh, NY and most recently of the Samuel F. Vilas Home passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Malone, NY on August 15, 1924 the son of Maurice J. and Georgette (Dussault) LaRocque. Marcel was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Army from April 1943 to December 1946 as active duty. From September 1943 to September 1944 he was in the Army Specialized Training Program as a Japanese language student at Yale University, New Haven, CT. From September 1944 to December 1944, Marcel trained at the Prisoner of War Interrogation School-Japanese at Orlando, FL. He then went on to Army Advanced Japanese Language School at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, MI from January 1945 to December 1945. In 1946, Marcel was a Japanese Linguist with the Military Intelligence, Tokyo as a G-2-GHQ (2nd Lt.). Marcel served in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1951 to 1962 separating as Captain. He received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Plattsburgh State University College in June 1949 and his Masters Degree in Education from St. Lawrence University in August 1951. Marcel served as Head Teacher at North Bangor Union Free School from September 1949 to June 1953. From September 1953 to June 1957 he was Principal at Bailey Avenue School, Plattsburgh, NY. He was Director of Admissions at Plattsburgh State University College from June 1957 to August 1958. Marcel was Elementary Principal and Director of Elementary Education at Peru Central School September 1958 to June 1983 when he retired from Peru Central School. From January 1984 to September 1984 he served as Interim Principal at Champlain Elementary School of Northeastern Central School District. Marcel was a part time Supervisor of Student Teachers at Plattsburgh State University College from September 1984 to 1989. He enjoyed reading, walking, golfing and visiting family. Marcel was predeceased by his parents Maurice J. and Georgette LaRocque, his siblings; Paul L. LaRocque, Madeline Barton and her husband Thomas, Armand LaRocque, Robert LaRocque and his wife Ruth and a grandson Eric LaRocque. He is survived by his wife of sixty seven years Rita P. (Benoit) LaRocque of Plattsburgh, his children; John P. LaRocque and his wife Donna of Peru, NY, Philip A. LaRocque and his wife Penny of Averill Park, NY, Matthew G. LaRocque of Charlotte, NC, Marcia LaRocque Levy and her husband David of East Hampton, MA, Denise LaRocque Conway and her husband Michael of Nassau, NY, his sisters-in-law Jeannette LaRocque of Chandler, AZ, Margaret LaRocque of Long Lake, NY, thirteen grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive him. Calling hours will be on Thursday June 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Church, Plattsburgh. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
