Marcella J. Goulet-Poitras April 05, 1927 - April 10, 2024 MERRILL - Marcella Jaqueline, 97, of Blanche Rd, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, five days after her birthday. She passed quietly in her home with family while she was receiving her last rights with Deacon Ken Lucia. She was born in Bic - Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Cecile Rioux, and Adolphus Goulet. She was the middle child of sixteen siblings living on a farm and eventually moved into a small house close to the St. Lawrence River. She and her family spoke many times of digging for clams and beating the tide to get back to shore after playing and swimming on a close by island. In her teens she moved to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and lived there where she met her husband Marcel Poitras in 1954 and the two were married in Lacolle, PQ in 1955. About three years later they decided to immigrate to the US and settled in Merrill, NY where our parents lived until her passing. She did not speak English but managed to get assistance from good neighbors like Rita, and Mina who spoke French. She enjoyed doing crosswords which helped her master the English language with a beautiful French accent. Mom had a great love for God and the Virgin Mary and did not miss saying her rosary every day. She instilled in us how important it was to have faith and she lived and showed it by how she acted and helped people in need. The door was always open for the kids in our small neighborhood. There was always homemade chocolate chip cookies available. Many have returned to visit and thank her to this day for being a second mom. Mom had many hats throughout her life. One that we will always remember was the many summers of washing clothes for the campers at "Tanager Lodge" on Chateaugay Lake. She had only a wringer washing machine and hung the clothes to dry on clothes lines. Some years there were at least 40-45 bags that had to be washed, dried, sorted by name tags, and bagged within 3 days. The owner's of the camp always said she was the best and she "was" in so many ways! Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and those who were priveleged to know her would agree that she was amazing, couragous, never judgemental, and uplifting no matter what the circumstances. She enjoyed the sunshine, flowers, berry picking, and music. Left to cherish her memory are her four children - Francine Poitras, Robert (Mary)Poitras, Christine (Rich) Rogers, Alan Poitras. Seven grandchildren; Andrea (Mike) Barber, Ethan (Karla) Norcross, Kenia Norcross, Joshua (Nicole) Poitras, Bianca (Daniel)Poitras, and Nathan (Candice) Poitras, and ten great-grandchildren She was predeceased by her parents and husband Marcel of over 55 years. She has 3 siblings that remain; Claude (Angel), Jean D'arc, and Georgette. Also remaining are her in-laws Heather, and Eddi. Visiting hours are on Friday April 19, 2024 from 10 am to 11:45 followed by a funeral service at noon at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Lyon Mt. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Bernard's Lyon Mt Church steps renovations. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown's Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY
