Plattsburgh Mrs. Margaret Defayette, 89, of D'Youville Apartments passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on April 8, 1922 the daughter of Edward and Melvina (White) Stone. Upon the untimely death of her mother, Margaret at age of three months was raised by her maternal grandparents Alexander and Delma White in Willsboro, New York. Margaret graduated from Willsboro High School in 1940. On July 3rd, 1941 she married Leo C. Dafayette of Plattsburgh, New York and moved to Plattsburgh. She worked for the New York State Labor Department in the Unemployment Division in Plattsburgh for thirteen years. Margaret then went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance for fifteen years, retiring in 1980. She was very active parishioner at St. Peter's Parish, the Catholic Daughters Court #479, the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Peter's Church, a Link of the Living Rosary and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed traveling, driving to various destinations, knitting and crocheting. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Edward and Melvina Stone, her husband Leo C. Defayette March 26, 1951 her grandparents and several aunts and uncles and a half brother Donald Stone. She is survived by a son James Defayette and his wife Sandy of West Chazy, New York, a daughter Shirley Rascoe and her husband Paul of Chazy, New York, five grandchildren, Mrs. Gary (Amy Defayette) LaValley, Mrs. Dale (Sara Defayette) Gadway, Brian Rascoe and his wife Danielle, Darrell Rascoe, Mrs. Jeremy (Christina Rascoe), four great grandsons, Ryan LaValley, Adam LaValley and Evan Gadway and Cody Gadway, three sisters-in-law Kathy Stone of Melbourne, FL, Lena Defayette and Teresa Defayette and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends wishing may donations to Muscular Dystrophy or the Emmaus Room at St. Peter's Church.
