Marie Elizabeth O'Connor

Dannemora Mrs. Marie E. O'Connor, 88, of Smith Street in Dannemora, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at her home with her loving family by her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 4, 1924, the daughter of the late George and Alice (LaFontaine) Douglas. After high school, Marie began her career at the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company in Plattsburgh and later was a bookkeeper at Dannemora High School for several years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora and was a member of Court Mary Admirable Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Dr. Michael and Meredith O'Connor of Plattsburgh, Patricia and Scott Kanaly of Dannemora, her siblings; George and Rita Douglas of Plattsburgh, Lawrence and Audrey Douglas of Altona, John and Patricia Douglas of Northport, L.I., her grandchildren and their spouses; Michael and Kristin O'Connor , Christopher O'Connor, Shannon and Anthony D'Abruzzo, Jill and Christopher Demers, her great grandchildren; Karina , Gia, Maria and Anna D'Abruzzo, Katie, Ryan and Jack Demers, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins . Her husband, Thomas O'Connor passed away May 7, 2001. A brother Donald Douglas and a nephew Gary Douglas also passed away earlier. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be offered to Hospice of the North Country or the Dannemora Fire Department. Marie's family wishes to give a special thank you to her caregivers Ellen, Charlotte, Cherie, Faye ,Jamie , Holly and her Hospice nurses especially Katie, Ellen and Robin.
