Mark Taylor Agan

December 18, 1948 — August 4, 2023

Mark Taylor Agan was born the son of Mary Louise Agan and Robert William Agan, MD in Bennington VT on December 18, 1948.  He died unexpectedly at his home in Plattsburgh NY on August 4, 2023.

Mark grew up in Cape Elizabeth ME and graduated from high school there.  He earned a degree in Psychology at the University of Vermont.

Mark married Anne Blanchard York and together they raised two sons, Matthew and Joshua.

Mark lived most of his life near the shores of Lake Champlain in North Ferrisburgh, Colchester, and Swanton VT and in Plattsburgh NY.  He worked  for two decades at the Psychiatric in-patient unit of the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont.  He was later employed at Howard Mental Health in Burlington and at the Crisis Hotline in Portland ME.

Mark loved playing horseshoes and Scrabble.  A devoted reader, he enjoyed reading lengthy fiction works, the longer, the better.  He was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and followed other Boston pro teams and the New York Football Giants. He delighted in the success of  UVM Catamounts’ athletic teams.

He was a competitive road runner in his younger days and completed five marathons.  During his later years, he aspired to complete a 5-K race, but his disabilities prevented  him from realizing that dream.

Mark was predeceased by his mother and father and his son Matthew Anthony Agan.  He is survived by: his son Joshua Hopkins Agan, daughter-in-law Intan Sari Agan, and granddaughter Maia Agan Geronimo, all of Jacksonville FL; brother David Agan (Aileen Fortune) of Wells ME and sisters Nancy Agan of Gorham ME and Martha Agan (Jay Madden) of Cape Elizabeth ME.
