Martha Gulley, aged 71, passed away on Wednesday May 3rd peacefully at her home in Saranac, New York.
A daughter of Robert and Dorothy Igoe, Martha was born on March 12th,1952 in Rome, New York. She attended the Academy of The Holy Names in Rome, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Utica Catholic Academy. She received a BA in fine arts from Montana State University. While in school, she worked in the family business at Grant’s Book Shop. Over the years she worked with adult and child psychiatric clients in Montana and Idaho. After returning to New York, she worked for many years at the Clinton County Office for the Aging.
While living in Montana, she met her future husband, Montana native, David Gulley. They were married in Butte in 1979. Martha and David spent many happy years together and enjoyed camping where Martha would cook and read while David fished the streams and rivers of the West.
After moving to Saranac, New York in 1988, they had a son, Sean Robert Gulley in 1989. This unexpected gift made them into a little family, facing life’s joys and challenges together. Martha was an incredibly kind, compassionate, and caring person who greatly valued her family and friends. She loved camping, kayaking, pottery, reading, and British comedies. In both her career and personal life, she was very passionate about helping others and was the type of person that could find the good in anyone or anything.
Martha is survived by her husband David and son Sean, siblings Sheila Orlin and Ray Martin, Lynn Igoe, Sally and Phil Myhr, and Robert and Peggy Igoe; her brother and sister-in-law Dan and Christie Gulley and their children Corey Gulley, Shannon Swisher,Heather Crokett Gregory, and predeceased daughter Erin Miller ;predeceased sister-in-law Kathy Shea and husband John, and children Tara and Matt; predeceased brother-in-law Joey Gulley. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families/children: David and Kelli Sherline, Alyssa, Jacob, Katelyn and Brooke Sherline; Erin and Sam Scalise; Zach and Jennifer Steffen, Luke and Lila Steffen; Paul and Michele Dischiavo, Mia, Andrew, and Ella Dischiavo, Devon Dischiavo and his partner Sasha, their children Preston, Kailani, Mark, and Biani ; Jerry Dischiavo and Jenna Webb and their son Kieran Dischiavo; Alex Myhr and Rebecca Robbins; Laura Myhr and Mark Ryan; and Kendra Igoe.
There will be a service held at St. Peters in Plattsburgh on Wednesday, May24th at 1:30pm. Following the service there will be a celebration of life from 3-5pm at Pizza Bono Lounge in Plattsburgh, NY.
