Mary Nazzaro Arguelles

April 11, 1924 — March 7, 2022

Mary Arguelles, (nee Nazzaro), 97, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022, at Meadowbrook Healthcare, Plattsburgh, NY. Mary was the widow of Henry Arguelles who passed away in 2002. Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 11, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Pacciullo) Nazzaro. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Camillo and Louis Nazzaro, and three sisters, Eleanor (Nazzaro) Russo, and Julia and Cecelia Nazzaro.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Mary worked at a variety of jobs in her lifetime including taking a position as a spot welder on ships at the Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II. She was feisty, funny, and fashionable, and loved a good bargain and a clean house. She would never turn down a strong cup of coffee or a slice of Entenmann’s cake. In her younger days, she and her husband, Henry, would often go dancing. She could crack out a mean Lindy Hop if needed! In her later years, she and Henry enjoyed their apartment in Brooklyn with extended family where the grandchildren loved to come to visit, explore New York City, and chat with all the aunts. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by two sons, Frank Arguelles, husband of Mary, of West Reading, PA, Dr. Joseph Arguelles, husband of Tracy, of Plattsburgh, NY, and one daughter, Eleanor Haugstatter, wife of Joseph Haugstatter of Holtsville, NY. In addition, there are eleven grandchildren: Justin Arguelles, husband of Alyssa, of West Lawn, PA; Kathryn Arguelles of West Reading, PA; Alexander Arguelles, partner of Xai, of Coatesville, PA; Maria Morrison, wife of Jake of Vancouver, WA; John Wright Arguelles of Portland, OR; Amelia, William, and Dorothy Arguelles of Plattsburgh, NY; Joseph Haugstatter of Holtsville, NY; Ashley Haugstatter, partner of Mike, of Cicero, NY, and Heather Haugstatter of Holtsville, NY. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren: Antony, Lillian, Dominic, Henry, Remi, Mila, and Tripp.
