Plattsburgh Mary Cecelia Barrett Plattsburgh -- Mary Cecelia Barrett, 87, of Brooklyn NY, the loving daughter of the late Edward Francis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Splaine) Barrett, passed to eternal life Saturday, April 11, 2009. She was born August 8, 1921 on Morton St in Brooklyn, NY. Mary attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and Bishop McDonell Memorial High School, graduating in 1939. Soon after her graduation, she began a long career of service to the Catholic Church with both the Diocese of Brooklyn, working with the deaf as part of Brookly Catholic Charities, and the ArchDiocese of NY. On her retirement, Mary moved to The Villa St Dominic retreat center in Saugerties, NY where she provided administrative support publicizing and organizing their robust retreat schedule. Upon leaving the Villa, Mary lived with her sister - in - law, Matilda Barrett in Peachtree City, Georgia and then moved to Plattsburgh where she lived with her niece Jennifer Barrett and nephew Terence Barrett. Mary was a vigorous and adventurous woman who loved long walks, long drives, reading and gardening. She often traveled to spend time with her family and was a wonderful role model for her many nieces and nephews. Mary is survived by her sister-in law Matilda Barrett and eleven loving nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents; her brothers William Barrett and Edward Barrett, Sr., her sister-in-law Rita Barrett, and her nephew Edward Barrett, Jr. Calling hours will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Monday, 13 April 2009, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel in Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday, 15 April 2009, followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Diocese of Brooklyn, 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215 or Little Sisters of the Poor 110-39 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY.
