Mary "Moo" Brown

May 13, 1919 — March 12, 2021

Mary “Moo” Brown was born in Boston, May 13, 1919 into a world so different from today, it might as well have been another planet. We can only imagine what her eyes saw but we know she took it all in stride. Her life was not easy, by circumstance and choice, but she was tough and life made her tougher, sometimes too tough. She was her own person, a woman ahead of her time, strong and independent with an emotional prickliness that masked an all too human need for self-protection.
Moo raised 3 children and was a very strong presence in the lives of several grandchildren for whom she often provided sanctuary. She had strong opinions and unique methods, from child-care to politics, and she was not shy about expressing them. Moo appeared to be able to do whatever she set her mind to. She continued to work outside the home even while raising her family and long before it was accepted practice. She traveled, loved good food, anything French, and she was among the best story-tellers and gravel-sandwich makers in the world. She was an avid reader and a master of sarcasm, with the driest wit and darkest humor.

On March 12, 2021, Moo concluded that she had done all she had to do and she passed the torch to her daughters, stepped aside and let the race continue without her. We will miss Moo. Fortunately, she left us with many sound-bites, sound-effects and stories with which to honor her life and her memory.
Bon Voyage Moo, your ship has finally come in. We will take it from here.
Longtime resident of Jamaica Plain and Beacon Hill in Boston, Moo relocated to Plattsburgh, NY three years ago. Pre-deceased by her son William and his two sons Jason and Joshua, Moo leaves her two daughters Elaine Bishop, Mimi Brown (Carol Anastasio), five grand-children: Kerry Brown, Sharon Morrell (Ken Morrell), Charlie Bishop (Heather), Meghan Parent (Neil), Ross Bishop (Mandy) and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be no public calling hours or services.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
