Mary Ellen Budro

Mary Ellen Budro, 79, a resident of Richfield Springs (RS), NY, passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, at the Charleston, SC, home of her loving daughter who was by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY, on May 8, 1941, the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Brien) Vernosky.
A graduate of Lyon Mountain High School, Mary was employed as the secretary to the Principal in the RS Central School District for many years. She was a Notary Public who was involved with the NYS Board of Cooperative Educational Services and the Civil Service Employees Association. Prior to moving to RS, Mary served as a law office assistant in Ticonderoga, NY, and as a secretary at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh.
An active Catholic, Mary often spent her early years with the nuns and supported St Joseph’s and various missions. She served as President and Secretary of Take Off Pounds Sensibly attending their annual conventions and supported Friends of Lyon Mountain, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 616, and the RS Chamber of Commerce.
Mary was a loving and caring mother, sister, and wife, who enjoyed quality family time and the special bond she had with her daughter; she was a kind friend who was a lot of fun and always sent thoughtful cards to those she held dear. She enjoyed reading Danielle Steele novels and the entire newspaper; watching George Carlin’s stand-up comedy; playing board / card games and word searches.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, E. Lawrence “Larry” Budro. She is survived by her only child, Heidi; sister Noreen Tolosky (Steve); sister Elizabeth Wolcott (George); five nieces and their families.
Services will be private at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. In lieu of flowers, cards of condolences and memories of Mary can be sent to the family at PO Box 420, Richfield Springs, NY 13439, and donations in her name to the American Cancer Society. A burial will be at Saratoga National Cemetery.
