Dannemora Mrs. M. Eleanor Gilroy, 93, formerly of Dannemora, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home in Guilderland with family by her side. She was born in Waterloo, N.Y. on October 9, 1920, the daughter of the late Frederick and Valeta (Jarvis) Easton. She grew up in Seneca Falls, N.Y. , attended St. Patrick's School and graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1938. She was proud to be from Seneca Falls, the home of the first Women's Rights Convention in 1848. During the War, she worked in the F.B.I. office in Buffalo, N.Y.. Locally, she worked for Plattsburgh National Bank. She married Carlton Gilroy on May 21, 1949. She was a stay at home Mom and homemaker who raised six children. She was active in St. Joseph's Home and School Club (PTA) and the Court Mother Admirable Catholic Daughters for over 50 years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora and most recently Christ the King Church in Guilderland. She enjoyed music, dancing, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carlton Gilroy, her children and their spouses; Kevin and Pam Gilroy of Jersey City, N.J., Mary and Laurence O'Toole of Athens, Ga., Kieran and Joanne Gilroy of Rouses Point, Brendan and Donna Gilroy of Apex, N.C., Monica and Michael Thomas of Guilderland, N.Y., Terrance and Loretta Gilroy of Brooklyn, N.Y., a sister and brother in law: Helen and James Petersen of Seneca Falls, N.Y., a sister in law; Florence Easton of Florida, her brothers in law and sisters in law; Gertrude Gilroy, Barbara Bailey, Malcolm and Joyce Gilroy ,all of Dannemora, her grandchildren; Conor and Archana O'Toole, Kathleen O'Toole, Kara and Kevin Thomas, Dylan and Haley Gilroy, a great grandson; Rohan O'Toole, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters; Marguerite Easton and Alice Easton, a brother; Gerard Easton, and brothers in law; Terrance Gilroy and John Bailey. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be offered to The Community Hospice Foundation 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144.
