Mary Jean Lawrance

December 14, 1923 — February 27, 2021

Mary Jean Lawrance, 97 of Peru, NY passed away at home on Saturday, February 27th 2021. She was born to Mary Isabel and George Henry Defel on December 14th 1923 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
She graduated from Indiana State Teacher’s College and went on to graduate from Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She was a member of the Mt. Sinai Alumni Association.
She married Norman L. Lawrance on April 23, 1948 in Glendale, NY. They were married for 59 years until Norman’s death in 2007. She spent many years as a military wife traveling and living in numerous places including Madrid, Spain. Jean and Norman had 5 children. Her favorite things to do were gardening, playing music, sailing, sewing and taking care of her family.
She worked at Champlain Valley Physicians Medical Center and at the Plattsburgh, AFB hospital, as well as many local nursing home facilities as a Medical Records Auditor. She received numerous Outstanding Achievement Awards during time in the Federal Civil Service.
She is survived by her 5 children; Craig and spouse Karen Lawrance, Reed Lawrance, Chris and spouse Andrea Lawrance, Kim Lawrance and spouse Paul Adams, Jan Dahlen and spouse Gregg Dahlen. Her 8 grandchildren; Liana Lawrance and her spouse Dana Dubois, Seona Lawrance, Derek Lawrance and his spouse Chelsea Lawrance, Jessica Perry and her spouse Jason Perry, Jacqueline DeCapite and her spouse Richard DeCapite, David Adams and his spouse Sara Feng, Christin Bedore and her fiance Jeremy Sherman and Niklas Dahlen. Her great grandchildren, Lily, Ava, Carter, Weston, Liam, Luca, Aria, John and Vincent. She is also survived by a niece, Elaine Platt and her daughter Kelly Falk.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Dr. Betty Jane Reynolds, and her nieces Cynthia Carley and Daphne Reynolds.
Jean’s family meant everything to her. She dedicated her life to their wellbeing and was the best Mom ever. In lieu of flowers or donations, Jean would ask that people be kind to one another and live a life of service to others.
