Mary R. Provost

Mary R (Keenan) Provost, 95, of Plattsburgh, NY went to her eternal rest on April 27th at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Peru, NY on December 24, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Geraldine (Ryan) Keenan. Mary grew up in Plattsburgh and Peru and was a 1946 graduate of Peru Central School. She married Robert R Provost, Sr. on January 14, 1947 at St. Peters Church in Plattsburgh, NY. Mary worked for several years at Georgia Pacific before accepting a position with the Clinton County Social Services Department from which she retired. She took great pleasure spending time with family, reading, watching Jeopardy and crocheting afghan blankets for all of her children and family members. She was a member and past President of the Post 20 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a member of VFW 125 in Plattsburgh. Left to cherish her memory are three daughters Theresa “Terry” (Charles) Voorhees, Katherine “Kathy” (Joel) Firme and Julie (Mike) Kelly; three sons Robert R (Susan Papa) Provost, Jr., Michael (Alyce) Provost and William "Bill" Provost. She is also survived by a sister Gerry Shadrick; three brothers Peter, J Edward and Michael Keenan; 15 grandchildren, Carey Ditton, Kyle Ryan, Kristie Bush, Cris Edbauer, Chuck Voorhees, Paul Provost, Mickey Provost, Kelli Loughan, Crissy Ryan, Courtney Voorhees, Jenifer Cote, Casey Provost, Sara Provost, Emillie Guarino and Erik Provost; 21 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was thankful for her special friends who meant so much to her, Carol Brown-Dunhan, Kathy Kubli, Alice Jones and Becky Jabaut. A special thanks to the CVPH R3 and R4 staff for their excellent care of Mary. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert R Provost, Sr.; an infant son Kevin Thomas, a brother William Keenan and sister Patricia Rivers. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru, NY on Saturday May 18th at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Masses may be said in Mary’s memory. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
