Matthew John Wilson, 56, of Plattsburgh , died Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Clinton County Nursing Home. He was born November 4th, 1967 , the son of the late John E. Wilson Sr and Patricia Wilson. Matthew was born in Plattsburgh, NY, the youngest of six children. He graduated from Plattsburgh high school and Plattsburgh State University. He received his Master's degree from Marist College and was employed by IBM. When Matt had free time you could usually find him cruising around Lake Champlain in his Boston Whaler or hanging out at camp with friends; barbecuing, playing horseshoes and listening to music around a bonfire. On shore, Matt played ice hockey, soccer and golf; he also enjoyed downhill skiing and any other activity that included friends and family. Matt always had a "to-do" list and would painstakingly research a task so he could complete it without taking multiple trips to the hardware store. One of Matt's favorite sayings was "I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got 'stuff' to do" as he would (try) to make a quick exit. His most endearing word of advice to his nieces was to "fight nicely". Matt loved to laugh and had a witty sense of humor. Although Matthew lost his ability to speak years ago he could always be made to laugh with a funny family story or situation. Even Matthew’s caretakers caught onto this and always tried to think of ways to make Matthew laugh or smile. During Matthew’s final days several of the nursing home staff members made a point of telling us how much they were going to miss Matthew; that he had captured their hearts. Matthew is survived by his brother John Wilson and his wife, Patty, of Tavares, FL, his sister Karol Wilson and her husband, Joe Tobey, of Essex, VT, his nieces and nephews, Kaitlin Petrashune, Michael Morgan, Timothy Petrashune, Kelly Kowalowski, Elizabeth Tobey and Sarah Tobey. Matthew was predeceased by his parents, John E. Wilson, Sr. and Patricia Garvey Wilson, his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Morgan, his sister, Ann Marie Petrashune and his brother, Timothy Wilson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4pm-6pm at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. A prayer will be held at 6pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeny.com
