Maureen Moll

d. October 8, 2013

Plattsburgh Maureen Moll died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Colonel Robert Moll, USAF, who died August 2, 1997. She was born in Kirkland, IL, in 1918. Maureen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Rockford College, Rockford, Illinois, in 1941, after three years at Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin. Maureen did volunteer work wherever her Air Force officer husband was stationed, in both the military and civilian communities. She sang in various choirs and participated in community theatres, including the American Protestant Church choir and the British Comedy Club in Brussels, Belgium. Colonel Moll was transferred from Belgium to Plattsburgh Air Force Base in 1962. In the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Officers' Wives' Club, Maureen served as secretary, directed tours to Montreal, taught cross-country, skiing, and founded and directed a drama club, "The Powder Puff Players," which performed musical revues and comedy shows both on base and in the community. She also wrote a column for the Officers' Wives' Club monthly magazine informing readers of things to do in the area, from Montreal to Lake Placid and Vermont. She was a long-time Red Cross volunteer at the Base Hospital. Col. Moll assumed an administrative position at PSUC after his Air Force retirement, so the family remained in Plattsburgh. Maureen was active for many years as actress, director, and producer with the Plattsburgh Little Theatre. She also did volunteer work for several organizations including Plattsburgh State College's Women's Club, CVPH fundraiser, "The Follies," Meals on Wheels, Clinton County Council on the Arts, and Radio Reading Service of the North Country Office for Independence. She received several awards for her volunteer work including Angel of the Quarter from Plattsburgh Air Force Base, the Annual Arts Award from the Clinton County Council on the Arts, and the annual Honor Award from Trinity Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir for many years. In 2003, Maureen was part of a volunteer group which founded Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel, Inc., whose purpose is to restore, revive, and oversee the re-use of the Chapel (the former Old Base Chapel), located on the former Air Force Base. She served as Fund Raising chair and President of the Board of Directors. Maureen was also an avid golfer and played at the Barracks Golf Course for over forty years. Mrs. Moll is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Melvin Hoffman of Kenmore, N.Y., and their children, Robert of Rochester, N.Y. and William of Norfolk, Va., and a son, Christopher Moll, his wife, Deborah, and their daughters, Emily and Chloe, of Essex Junction, VT, and his children, Nicholas and Lisa, of Bellows Falls, VT. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at October 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh with a reception to follow. There will be a private family burial at Gilliland Cemetery, Plattsburgh. If desired, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to Trinity Episcopal Church's Organ Committee for repair and restoration of the Church's historic pipe organ, or to the Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel, 100 U.S. Oval, Plattsburgh, NY 12903. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. (518)-561-3980. Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
