Maurice R. Harnisch

Maurice “Moss” Harnisch, 92, of Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, Nov 27, 2024. He was born on March 18, 1932, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of Herve and Juliette Harnisch. Moss graduated from Hampden School of Pharmacy and began a 20-year career in the Air Force. In 1955, he married the former Joan Boes while they were both stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine. He retired from the USAF as a Major and then continued to work as a pharmacist at Ayerst Laboratory in Rouses Point, with his 2nd retirement after 14 years. Finally, he ended his career with a third retirement from Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) after 12 years. Throughout his career, he earned several commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the National Defense Service Medal. Moss was a parishioner at St. John’s church, where he had proudly volunteered for many years. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, enjoyed fishing, and loved to play cards. Left to cherish his memory is Joan, his wife of 69 years. Also, his son David (Patricia) Harnisch and their children: David Jr. (Jen) Harnisch, John Sr. (April) Harnisch, Patricia (Walter) Scott, Joshua (Holly) Harnisch, Zenovia Harnisch and her fiancé Jake Bucher, Luke (Katherine) Harnisch, and Bernadette (Joseph) Herder. There are 19 great-grandchildren. Additionally, his oldest daughter, Jean Harnisch, and her children: Elizabeth Dunham, Michael (Lina) Robertson, Benjamin (Susette) Robertson, and John Robertson. Finally, his second daughter, Renee (Bill) Rhino, and their children, Will Rhino and Nick (Andrea) Rhino. In addition to Maurice’s parents, he was predeceased by his brother Roger and two grandchildren, Matthew and Jacinta Harnisch. A Mass will be celebrated in honor of Maurice at St. John’s church on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10 am. Burial will follow in the Omaha National Cemetery at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Country.
