Dannemora Mrs. Melanie A. "Mel" Dowdle, 49, of Gregory Street, Dannemora, New York, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on March 19, 1963 the daughter of Francis and Virginia "Mae" (Turner) Golden. Melanie graduated from Mount Assumption High School Class of 1981 where she was an outstanding volleyball player receiving a scholarship in her sport. She received her Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Plattsburgh State University in 1987. Mel was employed as co-manager at the Limited when it opened in Plattsburgh and she was a waitress at Butcher Block for many years. She suffered a tragic automobile accident in 1986 which impaired her vocal chords. After much therapy, she regained her speech and returned to Plattsburgh State where she received her Masters in Speech Pathology. At the time of her death, Mel was a Speech Therapist at Morrisonville Elementary School. She married James Dowdle on August 13, 2005 at St. Alexander's Church. Mel was an avid golfer and was a member at Malone Golf Club. She enjoyed flower gardening and spoiling her nieces and nephews. Melanie was a member of St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. She was predeceased by her father Francis Golden and a brother Richard Golden. Mel is survived by her husband Jim Dowdle of Dannemora, her mother Virginia "Mae" Golden of Beekmantown, four brothers; Thomas Golden and his companion Kim Rennie of Keeseville, Michael Golden and his wife Brenda of Morrisonville, Donald Golden and his wife Cathy of Indianapolis, IN, Jim Golden and his companion Dawn Carr of New Market, MD, a sister; Maureen Bardelcik and her husband Dennis of Plattsburgh, her father and mother-in-law James and Eleanor Dowdle of Plattsburgh, a brother-in-law Dale Dowdle and his wife Kim of Plattsburgh, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. Friends wishing may make donations to Ronald McDonald House or St. John's Feral Cat Fund.
