Plattsburgh Mercedes Loughan "Dee Dee" Drown, 93, formerly of Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh, New York passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Beekmantown, New York on September 28, 1917 the daughter of Frank W. and Ceceil (Butler) Loughan. Mercedes graduated from the Plattsburgh Normal School Class of 1938. She began teaching Kindergarten at Peru Central School in 1957 and retired in 1980. She was involved in forming the Alumni Association at Plattsburgh State. Mercedes was a member of The New York State Retired Teachers Association, St. John's Church and The Catholic Daughters of the America Court Mary Immaculate #479. She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers Clarence, Francis and Robert Loughan and a great grandson Noah James Clemons. Mercedes is survived by a son John Drown and his wife Jean of Plattsburgh, a daughter Holly Clemons and her husband Lee of Peru, New York, her grandchildren Allison (Drown) Ruff of Las Vegas, Nevada, Joseph Drown of Maple Shade, New Jersey, Christy (Clemons) Conlon and her husband Adam of Wilson, North Carolina, Benjamin Clemons and John Clemons both of Peru, New York, her great grandchildren, Riley and Lucas Ruff, Simone, Jacob and Lillian Conlon, Lia Clemons and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 3, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. John's Church. Members of the Catholic Daughters are asked to meet Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.
