Michael "Tony" McMartin, 78, of 711 Jenna Court, Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly of Morrison Avenue, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2010, with his family by his side at Harrisburg Hospital. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on December 26, 1931, to the late William and Margaret Healey McMartin. He served in the United States Army Signal Corp from 1953 to 1955. In 1957, at age 26, upon the death of his father Tony took over ownership of Plattsburgh's Chrysler Plymouth dealership, McMartin Motor Co., which he ran until 1982. During that time he was a member of the New York State Auto Dealers Association and served as president in 1976. He subsequently became a franchised U-Haul dealer. Tony was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Plattsburgh City Board of Education from 1971 to 1978 serving as president his last two years, Director of the Clinton County Fair, member and president of the Orchestral Society, Community Services Board, Local Boy Scout Council, Charter Commission, Plattsburgh Air Force Base liaison, Senior Citizens Advisory Council, Downtown Coaches Club, ice storm volunteer and driver for Meals on Wheels. He opened his home to foreign exchange students and was a host for the Fresh Air Program. He was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus. In recognition of his tireless community service he was presented the Liberty Bell Award by the Clinton County Bar Association. Tony had a passion for the game of golf which he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. During his retirement years be became a certified master club maker. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara "Babs" McMartin, four children; Scott McMartin and Katherine Zumbrun of Camp Hill, PA, Julianne McMartin Tennant, Martha McMartin White and her husband, Jim, of Mechanicsburg, PA and Shane McMartin and his wife, Sherry, of Delanco, NJ; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Wyatt and Winston McMartin, Kelsey and Paden Tennant and Michael, Christopher and Rose White. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peters Church on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in Tony's name may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
