Michael J Welch

July 30, 1947 — February 1, 2024

Michael Joseph Welch, a beloved figure in our lives, was born on July 30, 1947, in Troy, New York, and departed this world on February 1, 2024, after bravely facing a brief illness. His passing leaves behind cherished memories and heartwarming stories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Michael is survived by his son, Jeff Welch and his former daughter-in-law, Patty Welch, and Jeff’s daughter Madison. Jeff's daughter held an irreplaceable place in his heart. The sheer joy he felt when she called him "Grandpa Mike" for the first time is a memory we will forever treasure. He also leaves behind three adoring sisters: Mary McGee (Charlie), Ellen Welch (Dick Johnson), and Anne Franks (Dean), as well as four brothers: Patrick (Ellen), Thomas (Tina), James (Diane), and David (Tina Soloski). Michael was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. In addition, he shared a close, familial bond with his son's best friends, Desi Racicot and Carman Rotella, whom he regarded as loving sons. Michael is also survived by his former wife, Kathy Birch Welch. In his memory, he joins his mother, Mary Louise Welch, his father, Thomas Michael Welch, his brother-in-law Charlie McGee, and a niece, Jennifer Welch, in eternal peace. The family was deeply connected, coming together weekly for what they affectionately referred to as "family dinner." This tradition was a cornerstone of their lives, eagerly anticipated by all. Michael, with his culinary skills and love for baking, often volunteered to bring dessert, delighting everyone with his famous pies. The younger members of the family cherished the opportunity to sit near him, relishing his humor and the extra desserts he would generously share. Imagine a bustling gathering of nearly twenty Welches, sharing their lives around the dinner table. A treasure that brought immense joy and left others envious of the bond they shared. Michael's passion extended beyond family gatherings, as he was an aviation enthusiast. Michael shared countless hours pursuing his hobby with his father. They delighted in flying radio-controlled airplanes together, often attending air shows in Rhinebeck, NY. Mike and his siblings were often packed into the family car for exciting rides to area airports to park and watch planes take off and land. In his later years, Michael found profound love and companionship with Rosemary Desso. Their loving relationship brought warmth and joy to his life, fostering a deep connection with Rosemary's daughter, Victoria, her husband Joseph, and their two sons, Nathaniel and Alexander Pawulak, whom he cherished as his own. Beyond his personal pursuits, Michael played an integral role in the SymQuest family, becoming a member on April 12, 2016, through the acquisition of Office Systems in Plattsburgh, NY. As a Senior Field Service Technician, he made significant contributions to the company's growth and client satisfaction. Known for his unwavering passion, dedication, and unmatched expertise, Mike's warm personality and welcoming smile left an indelible mark on colleagues and clients alike. Mike also served in the US Army Reserves, proudly serving our nation. Michael's life was a testament to the love he shared with his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to know him. While he may no longer be with us in person, his memory will forever live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace. He will be deeply missed.
