PLATTSBURGH - Monica Delia Phifer (Clancy) died on April 6Th, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Monica was born on July 28th, 1923, to Maurice and Evelyn Clancy (Bouyea). As their only child, she had many happy stories to share with her children and grandchildren, especially about her traveling salesman father and the trips she would take with him. Monica graduated from Plattsburgh State Normal School with a degree in Elementary Education. Monica had a passion for teaching young children. She was an educator in the Plattsburgh City School district for many years, retiring in 1977. Monica married Fredrick Townsley Phifer on October 9th, 1944. They were married for 67 years. Monica was a tireless caregiver and was completely dedicated to caring for her husband as he suffered from Parkinson's disease, until his death in May 2012. Their marriage produced five children, ten grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Monica was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her five children: Craig Phifer of Redondo Beach, California; Karen Mayer and her husband Paul of Burlington, Vermont; Gary Phifer and his wife Gail of Plattsburgh, New York; Mary Abbott of Plattsburgh, New York; and Mark Phifer and his wife Laurie of Plattsburgh, New York; as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. Monica was a past member of the Rosary Society and a communicate of St. John's Parrish. At Monica's request, there will be no calling hours. A family Mass will be conducted and burial will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's Church.
