Murry "Butch" H. Morgan

Murry H. Morgan, 75, known by friends and family as “Butch,” passed away peacefully at Sloan Kettering Medical Center in New York City on Thursday, August 17th, after a hard and long fight with lymphoma. Butch was born November 30, 1947 in Divide Colorado.

Butch served as a lineman with NYSEG for 30+ years. Butch continued as an electrician into his retirement, mostly doing jobs for family or friends, and frequently for the price of a round of golf and a steak dinner.

Butch was a lifelong athlete. He did everything from racing dirtbikes and running marathons, to racquetball and golf. One of Butch’s crowning achievements being that he got a hole-in-one, bowled a 300 game and ran a marathon all in the same year.

Butch will be remembered by his family for the summers at camp where he would single-handedly take all of the kids out on the boat for the day, tubing, skiing, and the occasional beaching of the boat.

Around town Butch was gregarious, and was known to always be surrounded by a group of outstanding friends, many of whom accompanied him to New York City regularly for his cancer treatments.

Butch is survived by his sons. Christopher Morgan of Utica, Mathew Morgan of Plattsburgh, Michael Morgan of Plattsburgh. His sister Mona Jabaut (Stephen) of Schroon Lake. He is a grandfather to Meghan Morgan, Nicolas Morgan, Richard Morgan, Sansa Morgan. Great grandchildren Gavin Swezey, Lily Swezey. His cat Conan. Many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his wife the love of his life Margaret “Peggy” Morgan, his father John F. Morgan, his mother Delia A. Morgan, His sister Mary Jane Ross, his brother Michael Morgan

A visitation for Butch will take place Wednesday, August 23, at Brown Funeral Home on Broad Street in Plattsburgh, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm with Funeral Services at 5:00 pm and a celebration of life at the Butcher Block to follow.
