Muzaffer Ahmet Aytur M.D.

Muzaffer A. Aytür, 94, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on October 22, 2023. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, on November 23, 1928, Muzaffer Ahmet Aytür was the husband of 42 years to the late Margit (Heller) Aytür of Plattsburgh, NY, and was the father of Semra and Turgut Aytür. Dr. Aytür arrived in the United States in 1953 on a Fulbright scholarship. From 1953-1960, he completed his medical residency and fellowship in internal medicine and cardiology, serving at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Staten Island, NY, Monmouth Memorial in Long Branch, NJ, Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1968, he opened his medical practice in Plattsburgh, NY where he practiced for the next 40 years. Dr. Aytür will always be remembered for his commitment to community medicine, often caring for his patients for their entire lives. A lifelong proponent of libraries, he cofounded the medical library at CVPH in 1970. He was an avid artist whose landscapes and portraits serve as living testaments to the people and places he loved. He enjoyed boating on Lake Champlain and walking amid the beautiful Adirondack paths in all seasons. He was drawn to the food and hospitality of local diners and regularly visited his favorites. Dr. Aytur and Margit loved the North Country, and the deep bonds they forged with friends and neighbors will always be cherished by the Aytur family. Dr. Aytur was the proud grandfather of Roman and Hugo Aytür. He was the brother of the late Memduh Aytür and Macide (Aytür) Alpen. He will be dearly missed for his spirit of curiosity, imagination, appreciation of nature, and commitment to community service.
