Nancy H. McGaulley, 94, of Plattsburgh, passed away on January 9, 2024 at CVPH. She was born in Greenport, NY on November 10, 1929, the daughter of Curtis and Edith (Purdy) Horton. Nancy was raised in New Suffolk, Long Island and graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1951 with a degree in home economics and continued her education at NYU. Nancy married John McGaulley in 1952. While residing on Long Island, she was employed in a number of positions as a dietician and teacher. In 1957, Nancy and John moved to Plattsburgh where they raised 4 daughters. She participated in many civic and cultural activities and was a communicant of St. John’s Parish. Nancy served as a religious education teacher, County Legislator, and Treasurer of the SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni Association (30 years). She was proud of her 29 years as a Commissioner of the South Fire Department, continuing a long family heritage of involvement in fire-fighting. An avid card player, she belonged to several groups including the Monday Bridge Club. As a “foodie” she was a member of Stone Soup, a cookbook collector, and prepared many fine meals for family and friends. Nancy enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, bird watching, knitting, cross-country skiing, walking, and gatherings with neighbors and family. She attributed her longevity to a healthy and active lifestyle. She is survived by her daughters: Marilyn (David) Lampell, Susan McGaulley and Kathleen McGaulley; her grandchildren: Erin (Evan), Scott, Jill, Elizabeth, Henry, Annie (Nahshon), Brendan and Patrick; her great-grandchildren: Derek, Finn, Isla, and Ella and many beloved relatives in the Horton and Chaskey families. She will be missed by her cherished dog, Bodhi. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband John, and her daughter Julie Ann. The family would like to extend many thanks to her home caretakers and the staff at CVPH and Meadowbrook. Visitation will be on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Church, followed by a reception in the church hall. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Interfaith Food Shelf, 127 Beekman St., Plattsburgh NY 12901.
