Norman E. Baker, 84, of Route 374, Cadyville, NY, died Thursday, August 29, 2024 at UVM-CVPH Medical Center. He was born on July 29, 1940 at CVPH in Plattsburgh, the son of Hazel (Vaughn) Baker and Francis Baker. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lou Lagree. They were married for more than 63 years. Survivors include their children, Jacqueline Baker (Gerald Verville) of Peru, Scott (Mary) Baker of Plattsburgh, Debra (Keith) Bruno of Morrisonville, Julie (Mikeal) Basile of Cohoes, NY, Stephen Baker of Cadyville; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Nicholas) Dosmann of Tucson, AZ, Shawn Wrisley of Cadyville, Anne Marie (Matthew) White of Plattsburgh, Christine (Nicholas) Stowe of Cadyville, Alexis (Eric) Conde of Albany, NY, Sabrina Bruno of Winooski, VT, Victoria Bruno of Plattsburgh, Robin Basile of Cohoes, NY; eight great grandchildren, Mirielle, Adrienne, and Owen Dosmann of Tucson, AZ, Colton and Vera Stowe of Cadyville, Avery, Ryleigh, and Austin White of Plattsburgh. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Hazel and Francis Baker; his sister, Anna (Baker) Reil, and his brother, Francis Baker. After graduating from Saranac Central School in 1958, he went on to work for various local companies include F.P. McKeefe Company, R.W. Bushey, Patricia Dinatale Construction, and N.J. Brunelle Construction. In May 1985 he took a risk and began his own construction company, Norm Baker and Sons. With the tireless assistance of his wife, Elizabeth, he worked on many projects, large and small, throughout the North Country. His greatest passion in life was being the owner and operator of the business for 39 years. He was very involved in the Town of Plattsburgh. He served as a Democratic Town Councilman for 20 years, also on the Town Planning Board Committee and the Democratic Committee. Other committees he served on were the Arthur LeFevre Senior Housing Committee. He was an active parishioner of the St. James Parish in Cadyville, NY and served on the church board for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Morrisonville, NY and the Mountain Lions Snowmobile Club. He was affiliated with the North Country Mission of Hope and once visited Nicaragua as a volunteer and assisted the Nicaraguan community with various construction efforts. He lent his expertise and time to contribute to many organizations and people in need throughout the community. Some of the memorable projects include the American Legion Post 1619 ball field, Lyon Mountain ball field, church parking lots, and residential projects for his children and grandchildren. He was extremely proud of his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, snowmobiling, stock car races, camping, spending his winters in Florida, collecting cars and equipment, and he especially loved playing in his gravel pit.
