Otis Sawyers

Otis Sawyers, age 53, a resident of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at CVPH. Born on October 19, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, Otis was the beloved son of Beryl Lewis and Shadrock Sawyers.
Otis was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and husband. His gentle nature and compassionate heart endeared him to all who knew him. Originally from Jamaica, Otis immigrated to the United States with his siblings, Sandralyn, Sharon, Andrea, and O'Neil, thanks to the sacrifices and vision of his mother, Beryl Lewis. It was her dream for a better life that blessed Otis with a full and joyful existence.
After completing his education, Otis joined the US Navy, serving with pride for four years, including during the Gulf War. He then pursued higher education at Plattsburgh State, where he ultimately met his wife, Stephanie. For over 20 years, Otis and Stephanie resided in Yonkers, NY, raising their daughter, Alexis, who was the center of Otis's world. Alexis brought him immeasurable pride and joy, filling his life with light and complete happiness. Otis cherished every precious moment shared with his daughter, creating treasured memories and celebrating milestones together.
In July 2021, Otis found his calling and a sense of purpose when he joined the US Customs and Border Protection. He served with dedication and commitment until his passing, finding a sense of belonging among the men and women at the Highgate Vt port. In addition to his professional endeavors, Otis loved spending quality time with his family. He enjoyed watching classic Karate movies, and his ideal day involved being with Stephanie and Alexis, surrounded by the soothing sounds of rain and an abundance of love.
Otis is survived by his mother, Beryl Lewis, his stepfather, Victor Barrows, his father, Shadrock Sawyers, his siblings Sharon Melvin, Andrea Sawyers, and O'Neil Sawyers, his wife, Stephanie Mason Sawyers, and his daughter, Alexis Sawyers. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandralyn Sawyers, his grandmother and grandfather.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20th, from 4-7pm at Brown's Funeral Home, located at 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh. Services and burial will take place on Friday, July 21st, at 11am at St. John's Church, 18 Broad St, Plattsburgh, followed by burial at St. Peter's Cemetery, 4705 S Catherine St, Plattsburgh.
