Patricia Langlois Racine

October 13, 1932 — November 27, 2022

Patricia Langlois Racine, 90, of Plattsburgh, passed away on November 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born October 13, 1932, in Plattsburgh, New York, she was the daughter of George and Gladys (Allard) Langlois.

Patricia, was affectionally called “Mrs. Pat” by the thousands of dance students who knew her during her 60 years as a dance and ballroom instructor and owner of the Langlois Racine Dance School in Plattsburgh. Patricia earned her master’s degree in Dance from Dance Educators of America, New York City, and her Bronze and Silver Medals in Ballroom Dance from Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Montreal, Quebec. In 1950, she began teaching in the basement of her parents’ home, with the family all pitching in to dig out the basement. Later, she opened her own studio on Peru Street in Plattsburgh. All of Pat’s children and some of Pat’s granddaughters continued the tradition of teaching dance, and numerous grand-children and cousins danced and performed in countless recitals and events.

In an article, “Generations in step,” published in the Press Republican on June 3, 2010, Patricia was quoted saying, “I always enjoyed the children, I don’t think I ever raised my voice.” This was true, Mrs. Pat was as passionate about caring for children as she was about dance. As a teacher, a mother of five, and an aunt to many, she will be missed dearly, but also remembered for her soft and gentle spirit, her special way of talking to children, and her strong faith.

She is survived by her children, Ann Rabideau and her husband, Jack, James Racine and his wife Chari, Barbara Racine-Knef and her husband, Daniel, Michael Racine and his wife, Isabel, and Julie Racine-Parshall and her husband Joseph; two sisters, Sr. Mary Barbara Langlois and Norma Parrotte, one brother, Norman Langlois, and one brother-in-law, James Gerace; and 19 grandchildren: Chad and Cory Rabideau and Tricia Ferro; Justin, Cameron, Daniel, and Drew Racine; Tony Healey Jr., Trina Cohen, Tyler Healey, and Tarissa Healey; Amy Knef-Reil and Adam Knef; Alexander Racine, Christian, Jenny, and Gino Blando; Dessie Daniell and Hailie Parshall; and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Roland, her brother and sister, George Langlois and Nancy Gerace, her brother-in-law, Leaneul Parrotte, grandchild, Joseph Parshall, and great grandchildren, Marriella Cohen and Nolan Healey.
