The Reverend Paul Arthur Heller, 78, of Plattsburgh died peacefully in his sleep on September 13, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Rugis Heller, and his children Adam, Caleb and Rebekah, and four grandchildren. He is best known for his 18 years of service as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh, his 3 years of mission service to Malawi, and his work in the Presbytery of Northern New York. He also served churches in Ashaway, RI and Wanakena, NY. Paul was a dedicated pastor to those lucky enough to be in his congregations. Hospital visits at 6am before surgery, frequent visits to shut-ins, late night calls and so much more. He was always there. His Sunday morning messages and personal conversations spoke to the heart with down-to-earth but spiritual advice. Paul was a true man of God. A passionate outdoorsman (and Pittsburgh Steelers fan), Paul was beloved by his family and community and will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh on Oct 19, 2024 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Medical Mission, which provides sources of clean drinking water to the people of Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia. www.mmmwater.org.
