Paul "Doc" Polhemus, 76 of Prospect Ave and formerly of Jabez Allen Rd, Peru, NY passed away on Tuesday January 26, 2010 at Meadowbrook Health Care in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 1, 1933, the son of Charles and Gladys (LaValley) Polhemus Doc attended the Mount Assumption Institute. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. Upon returning from the war, he married Theresa A. Kanley of Seneca Falls, NY on August 24, 1957. Doc worked for the D&H Railroad and the Plattsburgh Post Office. He was a past president of the postal carriers union. He then worked as Head of Security of the Plattsburgh City Beach and delivery person for Nelson's Flower Shop. Doc was an aide for 20 plus years and lifelong friend of Senator Ronald B Stafford. His best attribute was his memory and stories. He could tell you all about anyone, any place or any event in detail. He loved football; that love started during his time at MAI when he was their running back with no fear. Doc would go to all the area high school football games, especially Peru High School to watch his grandsons. But where ever there was a game either be in town or in Moriah he would be there. His second love was music. He loved to sing; he sang at parties, bars or family functions. His favorites were Al Jolson, Tony Bennett and Perry Como. Doc is survived by three sons and daughter in laws; Perry and Anne Polhemus of Midland Park,NJ, Kirk and Susan Polhemus of Peru, NY, Timothy and Michele Polhemus of Plattsburgh, NY; one daughter and son in law; Maureen and Kevin Stacey of Plattsburgh, NY; a brother and sister in law, Terry and Dee Polhemus of Plattsburgh, NY, two sisters and brother in law; Kathleen and Walter Latour of Plattsburgh, NY ,Jacqueline Clark of Schyuler Falls, NY, ten grandchildren; Darren Polhemus, Kevin Stacey, Sean Stacey, Ryan Stacey, Mark Polhemus, Scott Polhemus, Mary Polhemus, Benjamin Polhemus, Michael Polhemus, and Matthew Polhemus, a great grandchild, Keagan Polhemus and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Theresa A Polhemus, two brothers; Peter and Bruin Polhemus of Plattsburgh, NY, two sisters; Silvia Bethel of Ogdensburg, NY and Mary Ellen (Marlene) Johnson of Plattsburgh, NY and his parents; Charles and Gladys Polhemus of Plattsburgh, NY. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 30, 2010 at noon at St Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St Peter's Cemetery.
